MRC partners with 30+ non-profits and donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to community organizations. 
Refinery employees, retirees, and their families volunteer at local non-profit organizations.

Since 2003, the Martinez Refinery has helped raise over $1 million for the Martinez Education Foundation through the annual MRC-MEF Run for Education. Join us September 30, 2023 for the 21st Annual MRC-MEF Run for Education. The Martinez Education Foundation is a non-profit community-based partnership of energetic volunteers committed to providing the tools and resources needed to maximize the educational opportunities for our children. 

Since 1983, MEF has honored teachers with $3,226,400 in grants and this year awarded $130,700.

MRC sponsors community events in collaboration with our Community Partner, Downtown Martinez & Co, such as the July 4 Martinez Hometown Parade, Halloween Spooktacular and Small Business Saturday/Downtown Christmas Tree Lights. Downtown Martinez & Co. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the economic growth and vitality of Downtown Martinez. They strive to create a bright future while celebrating the history, culture, and deep roots of Martinez.

MRC is the Presenting Sponsor of the King of the County BBQ & Music Festival organized by the Martinez Chamber of Commerce each June on Father’s Day weekend.  The Martinez Chamber was founded in September 1936 to work with members to address business’ needs, hear what businesses want to improve the city and provide networking, marketing and educational opportunities.

The Boys & Girls Club of Contra Costa recognized Martinez Refining Company as the 2023 Corporate Partner of the Year for the refinery’s ongoing commitment to youth and workforce development. The Boys & Girls Martinez Clubhouse has been serving kids for more than 60 years. The organization’s mission is simple: to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
Loaves and Fishes logo

The Martinez Refinery has a long history of partnership with Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa. In 2022 MRC supported the purchase of the Loaves and Fishes Mobile Food truck, delivering over 500 meals per day. Additionally, our MRC grant for 2023 will serve over 19,000 meals to our neighbors in need. Since 1983, Loaves and Fishes has served over 5 million meals to many thousands of hungry people throughout Contra Costa County, including at a dining room in Martinez.

Since 2017, the Martinez Refinery has sponsored Save Mount Diablo’s Discover Diablo Hikes & Outings series. The annual series of free public activities includes, hikes, bilingual Spanish-English hikes, family walks, Rock-climbing events, trail runs, mountain-biking events, Plein-air painting events, property tours … and more! Save Mount Diablo is a national accredited land trust and conservation organization.
